Microsoft's X10 event today has revealed the highly anticipated release date for the Halo Reach (http://www.techtalkboards.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3171232) beta: May 3. There won't be any Natal controls or anything of that nature (not that you'd be able to take advantage of them yet, even if there were), as was recently rumored (http://www.techtalkboards.com/do/newsStory?cId=3177771), but beyond that we don't really know what to expect. In order to participate, all you'll need a Halo: ODST (http://www.techtalkboards.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3169382) disc, so you'll want to pick up the game between now and May if you're interested in being among the first gamers to get their hands on the next Halo title.
A demonstration of the Reach multiplayer map "Powerhouse," pictured above, is being shown at X10 today, so expect to hear impressions of that soon. Bungie offered (http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&link=HaloReach_X10) up the following description of the map:Utility and economy spurred industry amidst these isolated and unforgiving badlands, but like all infrastructure facilities on Reach, this hydroelectric site is under the purview of the UNSC war machine. All threats to the continued, predictable operation of humanity's final line of defense must be met with swift and decisive force.Expect to hear more details on the beta in the coming months, as well as a new ViDoc on Reach from Bungie "very, very soon."
